**Oxidative damage** or oxidative stress is a theory of free radicals that are involved in the ageing of the body. Oxidative damage can create several changes in the body’s biological activity and lead to:

- the loss of natural protein function
- DNA mutations
- cell damage and death

The accumulation of these changes accelerates ageing.
