The prize money also confirms that it is a lucrative industry. The International 2021 was the eSports tournament that offered the greatest overall prize pool as of November 2022. Its total prize pool was worth $40 million.

The results of a 2022 study with 260 professional eSports athletes prove that it is not about a sedentary lifestyle for many of them anymore. The study revealed that 92.7% of participants have moderate and/or high levels of physical activity
